It was a fun time reviewing the Oppo Find N with its gapless folding screen design and a more comfortable size. It takes a different approach to the folding display than Samsung with its “Flexion” hinge with water drop shape that lets the screen fold further into the hinge without a crease.
t would be fun to see the hinge’s durability put to test, since it is also well protected from dust. Thanks to jerryRigEverything who tested the durability of the smartphone.
The outer display comes with a pre-applied screen protector and the glass underneath is made of Gorilla Glass Victus “which scratches at a level six with deeper grooves at level 7”. The inner display is a different story, the foldable display is softer than a regular display, so a level 2 hardness leaves a permanent scratch on the panel and that would be as easy as using a fingernail.
The device has a metal frame, along with the volume buttons. The power key also doubles as the fingerprint scanner, which is scratchable but recessed. On the back, the glass panel is etched with a texture and the glass caused the razor blade to leave marks that can be dusted. All the cameras are also protected by glass so there are issues there.
The handset made it out alive from the lighter tests with no major problems; the Find N performed well against the dust test. After dumping a handful of gravel on to the inner display and forcing it closed a couple of times, the damage was minimal than expected and the hinge didn’t allow any foreign material to enter.
Finally, the phone survived the bend test. The Find N’s structure and hinge are both strong, as the phone couldn’t be bent either when in the closed state, nor did the structure fail when folding the phone past the open position.
Oppo’s Find N is currently limited to China, but the global launch might be on the table. There is no official word from the brand on when that might happen.
